Hundreds of jobs are to be created in Glasgow as a budget hotel chain plans a £3.5billion expansion.
Travelodge says it will open at least 40 more hotels every year for the next 14 years, creating 10,000 jobs.
The company has three hotels in Glasgow and a spokeswoman said: "We're looking for prime sites where we can build more hotels. Glasgow is very big for us."
Glasgow is set for a jobs bonanza with a budget hotel chain unveiling new plans to deal with huge demand for rooms in the city.
Travelodge plans to open at least 40 new hotels every year for the next 14 years, with Glasgow being a prime target for the major expansion bid.
It is expected the 560 new sites will create 10,000 jobs. The company currently has 318 hotels and 5000 workers and is opening a new hotel every eight days.
The expansion programme will end in 2020 when Travelodge hopes to have captured 10-per cent share of the hotel market.
And Scotland is a key part of that expansion plan and Glasgow in particular because so many visitors are flocking to the city.
Travelodge currently has 15 hotels north of the border. Now bosses have launched a city-wide search for prime sites as part of a major £3.5billion expansion programme. It operates three hotels in the Glasgow area – one at the airport, at the city's Hill Street and on Paisley Road - but it doesn't have enough rooms to meet demand.
A spokeswoman admitted: "Glasgow is a very cosmopolitan city. For that reason people want to come to the city for a short break, families want to come on holiday and business people are always looking for accommodation.
"We're currently looking for prime sites where we can build more hotels. We can't say how many as it will depend on location. But Glasgow is very big for us."
The boost to Glasgow's hotel sector was today welcomed by Alex Mosson, who played a major role in helping to promote the city. The former chairman of the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau said: "The idea of more hotels for Glasgow is encouraging."
Council leader Steven Purcell added: "This is a further boost to Glasgow's growing international reputation as a popular tourist destination and big event city such as the Uefa Cup Final."
